Thread: Rep points

  1. #1

    Default Rep points

Is there any way to tell who left you rep points? It would be nice to be able to see who left them.

On mine, I click User CP at the top left of the page; scroll way down to the bottom and it tells you how much rep you have. I usually leave a comment and my screen name (and name) in the comment box to the right. I believe that if the person giving you rep doesn't comment, then you can't tell who did it.

You wont give up, will you....

tccak is right. In your User CP, your rep will be listed, but if the user doesn't sign his comment with his username, then you dont know who sent it to you...unless you're a moderator...

Yep. Both Supporting and Premium members have the extra column that shows who left the rep. So there's another reason to support the site!

    == SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT ==

If you were a member of the Forums before March, 2009, you remember slow page load times, server hangs, and other frustrating delays. Those days are over. In March we quadrupled our server space and now our site is rocking along as smooth as anyone could ever hope. We've also streamlined our IT process and other internal processes to allow our site to grow efficiently. Here's a summary of what we've been up to in the last three months:

    • Quadrupled our server space (faster page-loads, vastly reduced error messages)
    • Added new maintenance functions (streamlined site performance, reduced down-time)
    • Added several new forums
    • Welcomed over 500 new members
    • Added over 30 new titles to our book and DVD store
    • Added logo T-shirts, sweatshirts, bags, hats, mugs and gift items to store (over 250 new items)
    • Revised newsletter program
    • New logo / consistent site-wide branding (in process)
    • New page layout (in process)
    • Consistent and intuitive site navigation scheme (in process)
    • Streamlined advertising program (in process)
The addition of these new products and features, together with our hardware upgrades, has come at an increased cost to our site. In order to provide the increased level of service we are offering, something needs to be done.

Many of you have asked about purchasing additional Private Message space, photo space, and other features in our forums area. Until recently, we were unable to provide those things because of server limitations. Additionally, many members who have benefited from this site have inquired about ways they could give something back. But until now there was no monetary way to do that.

Effective immediately, we are offering two new levels of membership. We will continue to offer the free membership program, and with the exception of a small increase in the number of photos allowed in forum posts, the free program will remain unchanged and available to everyone. The two new levels offer substantial enhancements over the free program, and provide many of the features our members have asked for. We hope you will consider participating. The rates and benefits are as follows:
    FREE MEMBER

    • "Member" title under name
    • Private Message storage: 50 (same as now)
    • Gallery Space: 100 pics (same as now)
    • Photos in Posts: 1MB limit (slight increase)

    PRICE: Free
    SUPPORTING MEMBER

    • "Supporting Member" bold title under name
    • Private Message storage: 200 (quadrupled)
    • Gallery Space: 200 pics (doubled)
    • Photos in Posts: 2MB limit (doubled)
    • Logo Decal (they're being printed now, please be patient)

    PRICE: $35 / year
    PREMIUM MEMBER

    • "Premium Member" bold title under name
    • Private Message storage: 500 (90% increase)
    • Gallery Space: 500 pics (80% increase)
    • Photos in Posts: No limit
    • Can Move Own Threads
    • Logo Decal (they're being printed now, please be patient)

    PRICE: $65 / year

    Default Rep points?

What exactly are rep points and how do you give and/or receive them?

It's really just a way to say "thank you" to someone who makes a particularly useful, helpful, or insightful post. To give someone rep points, you click on this icon in the upper right of the post in question. A small text box will open up where you can leave a short note and/or your screen name to let them know who it was from. As points accrue, little green boxes are added to their name on posts they make. It doesn't really mean anything, but it's nice to get feedback when folks appreciate what you have to say. To check your own rep points, click on the User CP in the upper left and scroll down a bit.

    Default more ???

So do you get 1 point at a time or do you get multiple each time someone wants to give them to you, like in sets 5,10,15, or what ever? Also how many to get each green box?
This might be kinda bad for me, I think this rep. thing might make this site even more addicting for me. LOL

The rep is variable based on who gives it. The longer you've been here, higher your post count, and higher your own rep is determines how much rep is given per click. So a "noob" would dish out 1 point while someone who spends tons of time here with thousands of posts and hundreds of rep points () will be throwing down perhaps 8 or 10 points for a single click.

There was a chart published somewhere around here (this board IIRC) that showed the "award" levels for dishing out more rep points.

For every 100 rep points you accumulate, you get another "bling" (the green boxes at the top right of the post). If you mouse over the boxes, it shows the category of rep a user is in, which changes every 100 rep points, but at the "50" mark (50, 150, 250, etc).

You can also leave some nice comments about the post when you give out rep. Note that you can't give rep to the same person again until you've "spread it around" and given out rep to a bunch of other people first (20?) and you can only give out so many rep hits per 24 hour period.

That is a pretty good breakdown there JOAT! There are a few out there that give quite a few rep points with one click

I would give more but I keep getting the "gotta spread da love" message. Is that ever going to get adjusted?
