Default Anyone interested in going up the haul road

I was thinking about going up the 11th through the 15th of Oct, but it looks like I may have to go alone. So Thought I would see if anyone was interested in going along?

If you shott a bull, he'll only be good for mounting as the meat will taste like caribou urine and your wife won't let you bring it in the garage. Now is the time to go...

    Default Rut Caribou

Went the middle of the first week of Oct 2 years ago. It was cold! Shot a really nice bull and it didn't stink. Got to warmer temps and you could hardly stand to get near the thing. Ate the T-loins the night it was shot and not bad, but the rest of the meat was horrible! I felt pretty bad. I wasn't raised that way.

I seen where you guys were talking about going with a rifle. Keep in mind that you have to hike 5 miles off to be legal. It is very cold up there at that time, for safety reasons I would try and talk you out of hiking off 5 miles. I know there are some air charters that will fly you off but I don't know if they run that late.

I was planning on using my bow, but after reading the posts about the rut I may need to rethink my plans. Thanks for the thoughts.

    Default rut

I used to go up all the time in oct. I hiked in solo several times and learned the hard way to shoot young bulls. The temps are not that bad if you plan on staying out overnight, It is too hard to hike 5 shoot and make it back to truck in one piece. I use a small sled to haul animals back. I tried to go when ground was frozen but snow wasn't to deep. GOOD LUCK
