Default Moose hunting up knik River/Pioneer peak?

OK, here it is. I have lived up here for 30 + years and have never taken my riverboat up Knik river, towards the glacier. Can anyone tell me how far up I could run till I hit the glacier? I will be running a jet on a 24 ' sled. Is the water level affected by the tides or does the glacier feed keep it pretty constant. I'm thinking of moose hunting up that way so has anyone else had any luck thru the years? Just curious on who has the 411 up that way. Thanks. By the way, I'm not asking for your moose hunting camp location or anything specific, just general info. Good luck

from what i know, you can ride a 4 wheeler up to metal creek and a little beyond....the south side of the river is pretty rugged, not much to hunt as i far as i know. metal creek area i hear usually has a few moose in it. those swamp flats near jim creek and friday creek are probly your best bet

You might be able to run your jet boat up to the glacier, but my bet is that you end up on a gravel bar. Pretty much only air boats make it all the way to the glacier. I do know of someone who took one of those super hot jet boats up there. They tried it again and had to get towed off the gravel with a truck.

You are better off just taking a 4 wheeler up the left side, and you will be with a lot of people.

If you can read a river you can get to the glacier right now in a fairly shallow running jet boat. I've been to the glacier twice in the past two days in my airboat and the water is low but not butt puckering low. As far as moose hunting goes, been there done that. Not much in the way of the swamp donkey in that area. The area is mostly exposed river bed and rugged mountains in the 14C area bordering Knik R.

most of the river boats can make it to the glacier without issue.....the limiting factor is the driver....if the driver is comfortable reading water and handling the boat, they shouldn't have any issues.....I've lived here all my life and still enjoy a trip to the glacier....

having said that, there are quite a few places Id rather look for moose than the Knik...
