Thread: Weekend Along the Old Denali Highway

Default Weekend Along the Old Denali Highway

I am not a hunter - but did enjoy seeing all of the folks out there looking for some big game! This weekend was phenominal... and we couldn't pass up a spur of the moment photography/berry picking trip (the his and hers idea of fun).

    Nice images!!

I am particularly fond on #1. Beautiful colors!

I like them all - well done. Favs are #1 and 3, but #2 has potential too.

    Cheers, SH

Really nice shots, Wxman! Did you take the rainbow photo on Sunday while driving the Denali Hwy??? My wife and I were driving the Denali Hwy last Sunday and I got some Rainbow shots. I will post them in another thread. I have the same shots from the Park of the same train trestle, but without the train. Sounds like you made the same loop that we did. We put close to 1,200-miles on the car during last weekends road trip.

Thanks for the kinds words Tull! We did a similar loop. Our in laws left Anchorage Sunday morning and we decided on a whim to go out for the weekend. Drove up to Denali first and then went from Cantwell to Paxson next. I figure we drove about 60 to 75 miles in before we stopped for the night (We stopped a lot for pictures and berry picking). On Monday we finished up the drive by heading partway to McCarthy and then back to Anchorage.

That rainbow shot was from Sunday (and according to the exif - right around 5:55p). We were about 15 miles in - where BLM has the sign on the north side of the road detailing the road itself.

I loved this drive...second year up here and the colors and lighting this day were unreal.

Ha! That's great! My camera clock was about an hour off, so it put my photos about 10-15 minutes behind you. I wonder where/when our paths crossed.

We shot over to Valdez first and then crossed over the copper for about 25-miles, back out and up to Paxon, to Denali and back to Wasilla with a total of around 1200-miles.

A great drive and would do it again ASAP!
