Default .300 weatherby load is flat smokin

Contacted hornday and they sent me some starting data for the 165 GMX...There max with reloader 22 was 84.5 grains. In my gun I was able to safely work up to 85.5...(HOT but safe)....Shot last night and the GMX out of a stock Vanguard shot into less than and inch at a 100 yards...smallets group was .723....

....The incredible part was I chronograph the first 5 shots and these were the velocities..

    1-3475
    2-3481
    3-3478
    4-3480
    5-3475

FROM A 24" BARREL!!!! I basically have nearly a 30.378 ballistics out of a 8 pound 24" barrel vanguard...I am happy to say the least. Lastly, It gives my dead on hold of Caribou/Deer size game to 425 and drops less than 18 inches at 500!!!

Impressive to say the least. I may have to give those GMX a try in my .340 and my dad's 300 Weatherby.

Best of luck to you this fall...

That will definately put the smack down on elk. Lazer flat shooting and with the GMX you should have excellent performance on large game. How did the loads shoot? Scotty

Loads shoot good, but just more pressure than I like...Dropped back down to 84.0 grains of Reloader 22 for average velocity of 3300-3325...Still should do the trick....Also experimenting with some factory weatherby loads....Really like a 180 grain bullet at 3250

Man, any 308 caliber 180grain bullet going 3300 is going to be an excellent shooting round for big game. My 300 Win Mag pushed 200gr right around 3000 and it hammers elk/deer/bear, and I am using a Sierra Bullet. You have an excellent shooter there. Can't beat a regular old Hornady for killing everytime. Might not be a sexy or expensive bullet, but it does get the job done with 0 troubles. Scotty

I would say that is beyond what would be expected and quit exceptional to say the least.

Great velocities... and I'm even more impressed withe ES. That's a reach out and touch 'em outfit I like those Vanguards (Howa action) Been entertaining the thought of getting one of their SS Sub MOA's, like in a 270 WSM.
