Default Upper Kenai and Canyon Aug 21,22

Beautiful bluebird days both friday and saturday. Did sportsmans to jims friday. Good day 10 fish each but nothing picture worthy. Lots of reds bedding up but no eggs in the water yet. 6mm was ok but it was 8's that caught fish.

Saturday did the upper and canyon. 1st time I have run the canyon in my raft and what a blast. I had such a good time and June slayed the dollies in there. 8mm in there too and lots of reds in the canyon. Water is good and clear but still moving a bit.

    Default Skilak

Nice pics Chuck. Did you have a motor to get across Skilak? Was the drift doable in a one man? Thanks.

All the romance of trout fishing exists in the mind of the angler and is in no way shared by the fish.

My buddy pulled m accross skilak with his drift boat. he has a 9 horse kicking on it and we got accross in about an hour. Lake was flat so it was a nice ride..

Canyon can be run in a 1 man for sure. My 2 man is not huge but we stuck it right down the middle of all the big stuff and it was a blast. It is a big rush and there is alot of fishable water between the white water too. If you get the chance to run it do it for sure. i cannot wait to do it again

Just got my raft earlier this summer and have been working my up to floating the canyon. Looks like a fun stretch of river. Good report as I couldnt make it to the Kenai this weekend and man did it kill me.

I'd love to see the video but can't get it to work when clicking on your link.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong.

Kidding man, it is working for me. Did you hit the play arrow once the screen came up?

Great videos Chuck on your Vimeo site. Thanks for giving us "haven't been there yet's" a taste of what's to come. Incredible scenery and some super fishing shots.

Nice vid Chuck. Great choice of music too. Good weather on this trip, but be careful crossing the lake later in the fall. I'm sure you've heard this many times, but that lake can get wicked in very short order. Experienced more than once....can be ugly. Thanks for the vid.

Been there done that ugly thing in a good boat and pooped myself. Running the canyon is one of those choices that are made before you leave Jims. It is take on a day by day basis. I understand and thanks for your concern
