Default Another trip on the Sound

I had the opportunity to take forum member "Big Jim" and his uncle out on PWS for three days last week. We have been talking about doing this for the past year or so. The weather was wet, but the water was flat. We caught a few flatfish, ling, rock fish, shrimp, and some silvers. These Hawaii boys love to fish and really do not need to sleep! In fact they brewed a pot of coffee after 9 pm the first night and finished it off!

Here they are stocking up on some glacial ice (quite the novelty for these island boys):

Here is a nice solid coho:

Some shrimp after the first pull:

These two could put away the shrimp:

    Default the trip continues

Even under cloud cover the scenery is awesome. Here are a couple of glacial shots:

    A tidal lagoon emptying out:

It was amazing the numbers of jellyfish coming out of this little lagoon. Pretty cool.

A few sea lions out on the rocks:

    Default a few more

Here is a nice ling that went home to Kauai:

One of many rock fish (quill back):

    A few more shrimp:

Since we pulled more shrimp, we had to eat again. This time we added some filets wrapped in bacon grilled medium rare, topped with a couple of fresh shrimp drizzled with melted butter, and some garlic bread on the side. No sense roughing it!

Did I mention that these guys liked shrimp?

Since they were eating more shrimp than the captain, they pulled the pots and processed the little bugs too.

We had a great three days on the water with lots of fish and shrimp and great company, but all trips must come to end and it is always a downer with this view:

We will have to top it next year, guys! Good times!

Just wanted to thank Pete publicly for taking us out there; it was spectacular! Also appreciate the Forum in the fact that I've met some great Alaskans! Jim

I just need an excuse, a little twist of the arm to get out there. It is a pretty cool place and I am fortunate to be able to spend so much time out there. I have to go back to my "real" job today. Summer is too short! See you over Christmas break.

    Thumbs up

Great report Pete looks like another great trip in the sound! What tidal lagoon was in the picture with the tide draining it? Looks like another neat spot to check out.
