Default fairbanks resident looking to buy or build first river boat

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum. But i am looking into purchasing a new riverboat. And i am looking for all the advice i can get. I'm looking for something about 20 feet long, powered by an outboard. I like the room in an outboard boat. I want something i can put the whole family in 4 or 5 adults mabie a couple kids. I'm thinking maybe buy a hull and a trailer and put it together myself. One hull that has really caught my eye is the wooldridge Alaskan xl. I haven't priced one yet. but anything over 15 grand on the hull and trailer is my max. What do you guy's recommend?

Wooldridge makes an excellent boat - I owned a 17' Alaskan for many years. I believe outboards are the way to go. I just upgraded to the XL this spring and absolutely love it. With the price point you're looking for, you should be able to find a 17' around (Craigslist, etc) but they usually are snapped up pretty fast. Would be willing to chat more offline if you like - send me a PM.

Forget about the XL for what your looking for. They had one at the outdoor show this year 44K. (Nice boat, but I had to laugh at the price.)

Yeah, i had a sneaking suspicion that the alaskan xl, was gonna be out of my reach. I think craigslist might be a good place to start looking. I'm gonna call and price a few hulls on monday.

Don't discount the inboards. I have plenty of room in my 20' Predator with the 200 Optimax inboard. I've gone on trips with 4 adults and 4 kids plus a bunch of gear and there is plenty or room. With the forward consol model, you can seat 6 under the canopy and still park the young ones in the front.
