Exclamation Brown Bears on the Russian River

Camped and fished on the Russian River from July 30 to Aug. 2. With most salmon holding in the Kenai, it was tough fishing on the Russian. However, the bear viewing was exceptional. My buddies and I spotted five grizzlies and one black bear in two days between the falls and the confluence.

The first image was captured at the confluence and the other was taken at the Cottonwood Hole.

Video of the second encounter is available for viewing at:

Arrow More Bears on the Russian River

While hiking downstream from the falls, spotted this sow with two cubs.

Granted, the image quality is not the best, but it's a documented bear sighting nonetheless.

Yup, saw her several times 3 weeks ago! She and the lil ones kicked us out of some real sweet fishing holes! The last one she and her cubs were walking up the trail towards us, so we headed up towards the falls. The last hole at the falls was stacked with fish!, but there was a black bear there that had to 7' tall on the hiking path just staring us down! We were between a rock and a hard place. Now I know a 7' tall blackie is huge for a black bear, but I swear this boar had lumps for ears, you couldn't even tell he had ears... he was that big! He would move 180 degrees with every step. He was that big! Luckily, He went to the falls hole, took his pick of the litter and hiked up the hill and ate his trophy while watching us the whole time. We saw our chance and boogied up the hill. I can only imagine what a show it might have been when the young sow and her cubs caught up with this big ol blackie!

    Talking Grizz Fishing at Falls

After limiting out on the evening of June 23, two friends and I visited the observation deck overlooking the Russian River Falls before hiking back to camp.

Upon arrival, we were thrilled to see this big guy working the hole directly below us with nobody else around:

Arrow One More Pic & Extended Video

One of my buddies had a nicer camera in tow. He was able to zoom in better and get some different angles, as well as film the bear catching an additional fish during our encounter:
