Well no Bow on the menu for me this year but my little 17 HMR is due a new paint job courtesy of Hunt_Ak and it is going to be my go to bird gun. Something about head shots at 40 yards w/ that little tack driver is going to be more fun than should be legal!

I missed 2 by inches, on I actually got a feather on my judo, the other I missed by about half an inch... Cool to actually get shots off at ruffies though!

I want to get out bird hunting. This will be my first season hunting bird and I'm a bit of a newbie. I don't even know where I'm allowed to hunt.

Sorry, I grew up in Michigan where hunting involved sitting in a tree and waiting for the game to come to you. My shotgun is begging me to get out anyways.

Anyone in the Fairbanks area? I'll be up there in a week and already got the shotgun and judo points ready. Any body seen any activity yet? Man I can't wait to hear the thunder of a flushing bird!!!!

    Default not yet...

I struck out at Hatchers on Monday. Walked for a few hours. I'll head out again, not sure exactly where - maybe tomorrow.

ak-powdermonkey: After not seeing one all day, I would have been thrilled to sling a flu-flu and a hammerhead at one, even if I did miss.

Took the 10 year old out on the 11th and he scored his first two grouse, and I scored another he just couldn't see in the tree. All three were males and over all a good day. Wasn't bad for a couple hours of walking with the kid.

They were full of cranberries, pine needles and rosehips(sp).

I was south of there Wednesday near Wasilla, also saw nothing. Getting the shotgun out and about was worth the trip anyways.
