Tell Micah he needs to pop a spike every now and then so I don't feel so pathetic.

Went up with two brand-new hunters. It was a crowd scene.

Still, we saw five does and one buck. I was sneaking toward the buck when a fusillade of shots came from nearby. Never saw the buck again, nor were there any dead deer in the area that afternoon.

I've got to find a less crowded area.

Saw plenty of other wildlife, and we had a great time.

Maybe I can find an asthmatic deer wandering around coughing this weekend.

Lucky you! In spite of wearing hunter orange, I saw several hunters I'm confident didn't see me. Although I did have one guy spot my orange from afar and 'glass' me with his riflescope.

I stand by my earlier statement:

Default Watch your back on douglas.

You have to watch out especially opening day or two and sept. 15th too. Even in the winter douglas can be too crowded. There was 6 inches of fresh powder and I was using the same trail somedbody beat me to it that morning but after a ways in I split off the opposite way. About 45 seconds later... KABOOM easily within 75 yards of me. Scared the crap out of me. I must have pushed a deer to the guy. I turned around and just hiked out and went home. That same situation has happened to me twice. So I do whatever it takes to get away from others now. My favorite one is where you hike up in the dark and have been sneaking up the side of a bowl just before sunrise and out of nowhere 2 guys just go plowing thru the middle of the bowl and blow your whole day. I have been hunting all over Douglas for 15 years or more and Used to be you could find a spot to yourself but thats hard to do now. No matter how far or steep you hike.
On the other hand I cant wait to get up there myself this weekend.

I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.

Ok, I *think* I was alone. Didn't see anyone else. I've found if you get off the trails, you start to see WAY less people. That said, I've gone through some of the nastiest crap I could've imagined. Also, I'm pretty sure I used up all my luck for seeing deer in one go...oh well.

Went up....Spent the night....Saw a totaly of 3 deer....a doe and fawn, and a fork buck across a HUGE valley, about 800-900 yards away...

Saw a sow blackie with 2 cubs as well...

I've got to be honest.....I saw hardly any sign...

Makes me wonder how the deer population is on Douglas?
