Default Valdez Shrimping With The Kids

Well I had my first successful shrimping run. Grandpa, me , and the kids caught some nice Halibut and a couple of hundred shrimp. This was a first for me on the shrimp. Thanks to Potbuilder and a few others who steered me in the right direction.

    Default how deep

How deep were your pots? I went a couple weeks ago out of valdez and set in 375' just west of Mineral creek - slightly deeper than what all the other pots were. I ended up with 61 shrimp in 24 hours worth of sets (3 pulls). I used some old herring and the pellets - I had snow crabs in my pots and some empty shrimp shells.

I am headed that way in a couple weeks and wondering where/how deep to set em this time.

snow crabs in pots? you set in the mud, shrimp like the hard bottom(rocks)
empty shells = octopus had a free meal on you

    Default yes -

I did set in the mud - always worried about losing the whole rig....

Is a freshwater source a necessity? The guy I am shrimping with "heard" from a charter capt'n that a fresh water source nearby is THE ticket - I had never heard that before.

    Default Depth?

I was shrimping around 400 feet, and was within 300 yards of a waterfall. Using Shrimp Crack for bait.
