Thread: Alaska Fires?

    Default Alaska Fires?

It sounds like there are quite a few fires surrounding sheep country. I was wondering if smoke may be limiting visibility in the Delta Junction and Tok areas?

It looks to me that those fires are going to be burning for a while although in a normal year fire season should be winding down soon. I'd say it is likely there will be some smoke in that area with certain winds, at least early in the season, but odds are not enough smoke to ruin a sheep hunt. Any smoke from distant fires is most likely to be a light haze.

Went through Delta on Friday and visibility was great. By the time you got to North Pole visibility was poor. Same in Fairbanks. The next morning the wind shifted and the smoke was blowing to the West and visibility was much better. Think it will depend on rain to help put out the fires and which way the wind is blowing on any given day.
