    Default Kodiak Griz

Hello everyone! This is my first post here, so I am a Forum virgin so please bear with'me. I am over here in Iraq again but I have some good news. 1st, I will be coming home soon and 2nd, I won a DB228 Kodiak fall bear tag. I lucked out because when I put in for it I did not realize that it was road accessable. So I have to ask..........anybody have experience it that area and or any guidance to point me in the right direction? I will be going by myself or possibly with a buddy if I can drag someone along, also the regs are a little sketchy on wether or not I am allowed Sika deer in that area? Any and all guidance is welcomed. Thanks in advance. SFC Len Bogardus

I drew DB228 last fall and was fortunate enough to take an 8' bear. I hunted up above Saltery lake and 90% of the bears I saw were on the lake eating silvers. I went in two days before season started to glass, and ended up taking my bear the first 15 minutes of light on Oct 25. It was so close to camp and so close to us it was hard to pass up. The hunt area is accessible by a 4X4 path that starts from the pavement and goes about 13 miles to where the hunt area starts. You can deer hunt there as well. Thanks for your service.

Congrats on getting the draw! I'm sure you'll find someone to go along with ya, especially if they can hunt deer while you're after the bear. Best of luck bagging a big brown. I'm on deployment #2 myself, over here in Afghanistan. I'm heading home for leave next month and taking my son out after moose and blackies. So what are you going to shoot that bear with?

The other 299,300,000 people can have it.
