from what ive read and heard, there is plenty of good deer hunting on that island as well as lots of BIG brown bear. Quite a few maulings happened there in recent years... If i were to hunt there i think I would hunt the highest country I could find, while the bears tend to stick to the rivers that time of year ( so i hear)

I hunted there about 10 years ago...or so. Didn't see any deer...possibly because there was a couple inches of very crunchy snow on the ground. But saw very little sign as well.
I've heard there were a number of deer there though...and as H&F said....LOTS of brown bear.

Yes there are black tails on hinchinbrook and brown bear also. I hunted the north side a couple years back and took 3 nice deer one of which was a 6 pointer....i've been told the south side is where most hunt. Easier access and all................

There are deer there,to be sure, but the weather can be horrible.2 Ft snow,60MPH winds day after day. I have a friend who has hunted there every year for 15 years out of a FS cabin, and a deck of cards, books, and LOTS of beer seem to to be mandatory gear. I have declined his invite to go so many times he quit asking.
