    Default Calling Hopeak

    Good evening,

A good friend of mine from SE AK drew the spring bear tag that is on SW Afognak and Raspberry island. He (and I are very excited about it) and we have both been over there in the fall but never the spring to hunt. Is there any info you could give us for the spring hunt? We have both hunted elk and deer over there and have always gone in Onion bay to set up camp, and have always seen bears, but we have never been over there in the spring.

    Default Spring bear hunt-Raspberry.

If I every have another hunt over that way, I'd get with Birch and Tiffany at Raspberry Island Remote lodge. We booked in there for our fall elk hunt, and had an excellet time! I know he could help you out with info, and I'm sure he could put you guys up too! Prices were great, and people were awesome. I'm sure he could point you in the right direction. They live there year-round.

Two things, One is Snowshoes, The other is Herring fleet, the bays can be full of herring boats and herring processors, and spotting planes for herring. The generators on the processors are loud, and run 24 hours, and the deck lights light the entire bays at night, making it hard to sleep. Sea level can be clear of snow, but 300 ASL can be six feet of snow. Suggest you research herring industry, and what bays the "MOTHER SHIP" (Processor) parks, and avoid those bays if possible. Good Hunting

+1 on Birch and Tiffany's place being the place to go for anything Raspberry Island.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming-----WOW-----what a ride!
