    Default Buffer Tube...

The buffer tube is what keeps the buffer retaining pin and spring in the lower receiver. Might have an undersized pin, or the tube isn't installed far enough.

Trying to remember isn't there a flat spot on one side of the buffer that needs to be turned away from the retention pin? It has been a while since I have taken down an AR but seems like I remember a bunch of people in the class trying to reinsert the spring and buffer only to have it keep popping back out.

Lower receiver extension (buffer spring tube) may be loose...that's what holds the spring and plunger in. Remove the buttstock, being careful not to lose the take down pin spring. Hold the plunger down while you tighten the lower receiver extension.
