Default Remove Johnson 35/40hp detune kit

I just picked up a boat with a 1987 Johnson 40 with the Kenai 35 kit on it. If I ever fish the Kenai I prefer to go with a guide so I figured I might as well pull the restrictor off and get me 5hp back. I know there is a plate between the carb and the intake, is that it? What else do I need to do?

I'd also be curious what your recomendations are to repower this boat in a couple years. The Johnson runs well enough, but I'm thinking an Evinrude E-tec 90hp with a jet is what the boat really needs. The hull is an 18' Almar Lite. Anyone know what the maximum hp the boat is rated for?

    Default I had a 1991 35/40 Johnson

There was not a restrictor plate on it between the carb and intake. The detune was a different throttle cam that didn't allow the carb to open all of the way. If yours is the same you need to get a new throttle cam. Try contacting AMDS or J. Kimberly.
