I don't know if I will be able to plan one this summer, maybe for the fall (Late Sept?). My summer is REALLY booked for the next month or so. If someone else wants to take the lead, I'll help out as much as I can though. Last years ride was a blast (and big success IMO)! About 100 riders and 70+ played the poker hand.

I am also available to help out during the fall (Sept - Oct). Just too busy during the summer. Do you still have the signs from last year? Let me know...I should be able to get more made. We can start talking about it and look at where folks might want to do it this year. Jim Creek was fun but maybe we want to look at moving it around from year to year to get people more knowledgeable about different trails. On the other hand, Jim Creek is easy and makes for less work for those of us that are putting in our time to pull this off. I am up for whatever!!!! I guess it is time to start planning...maybe we can look into getting a few prizes this year from local business owners who support the ATV/UTV community???

Yep, I still have the signs (thanks again BTW). Maybe Eureka would be a good destination this time. I doubt we would have as good of a turnout because of the distance away but it is a great place to ride.

So, what is the general consensus? Do we want to have a 2nd Annual ODD poker run? My life is finally starting to slow down a bit so I may have time to put it together for late September if we have some interest.

    Default I vote knik

Moose season goes until september 25th now so may get a better turnout in early october, and knik/jim creek would probably bring out more families. last year was a blast

Don't do it during hunting season. Nothing worse then trying to find a moose and then having a heard of recreational riders come through. I love to ride but during hunting season keep it quiet and slow if you are out for a rec ride.

No worries there. 14A season ends 9/25 so it will be after that for sure.

I guess we need to pick a date in October and then pick a place. When and where do we want to do this?

I would almost say we do it again at Jim Creek to build on last year's crowd and success. It makes the planning and travel easy enough. I would think we would loose a lot of folks if we make it too far away. Maybe this year, we could stretch it out toward the glacier more and run the Friday Creek trail versus stopping where we did for lunch last year???

I am off work and can help the 1st and 3rd weekends in October. Let me know...

    Default October

If we want the biggest turnout we need to wait until October and probably have it at Jims Creek again.

    Muddy,
Let me start by saying that my family and I had a great time at last year's event, and we really appreciate all the effort that went into putting it on.

About my only complaint from last year was that there was a LOT of time spent waiting around at the checkpoints, without a whole lot to do. As you start planning this year's event, is there anything we do to avoid the long and uneventful waits? Possibilities might include:
    - Having two checkpoint crews, leapfrogging each other. This was those who got an earlier start out of the previous checkpoint wouldn't have to wait so long as the next one. Admittedly, this will require reconciling the two lists at the end to determine the winner.
    - Having a spectator-friendly competition at all or some checkpoints, where the winner might get an additional card or prize. I'm thinking something like if we stop at Jim Creek, how about a water wheelie contest across the creek? Or, if we can have a checkpoint near a large mudhole, perhaps either mud drags or farthest/fastest crossing? At least this way there'd be something entertaining to watch as we wait.

Good ideas sr.... When I put last years together, I NEVER expected to have that large of a turnout! I figured 20-30 people would be a good showing for the first run....100 was a surprise.

I like the idea of some checkpoint "games", it would take several more volunteers to make it happen though. Maybe we could even have a "tug of war" between machines

Default I'll help out as much as I can

One note - a water wheelie contest would be better in the pond (first water past Friday Meadows where we stopped last year). Doing it in a creek may cause eyebrows to rise about conditions of the crossing permit. And I wonder if Jim Creek would even be deep enough to make it work. I KNOW the pond just past the Meadows will be!
How about some machine control tests? Holding an egg on a spoon stuck in your mouth while riding at speed across a rock field? Timed trial for 2 machines side by side around a twisted course (on rocks of course) with a 6' stick resting on the floorboards?
Usually I can think of better things but I am in a pretty good mood today

We are getting decent input on the poll I put out for this event. I would like the thank everyone that voted so far and encourage those who have not voted to do so. Right now the first weekend in October and Jim Creek/KPUA are in the lead. Make sure your preference is known!!! As for a water wheelie contest goes...I am in! I agree with Mike Echo, Jim Creek does not have the water conditions needed for a good water wheelie but the area past the meadow (where we had lunch last year) does for sure. I love to water wheelie across that area. If the right water conditions exist that would be a great place to see what your machines will do...just one friendly "shot across the bow" to some of my friends out there...Hondas don't float and "Cats" don't like water!!!!! Just try your best and I will be there to pull you out!!! hahahahaha!!!!

Not sure how they will do this year's run if it is at Jim Creek/KPUA. I would like to see us at least go back out onto the river bed at Wolf Point. That area has plenty of room for everyone and some great views. We made a trip out to the glacier last year while everyone stopped at the meadow for lunch. It was a fast trip and probably not recommended for everyone but we made it back with 20 minutes to spare.

We will just have to see when and where this thing happens. The poll I have going is by no means meant to signify when and where the event will happen. It is just meant to be a tool to use for information gathering to help the folks putting on this event out with the planning for maximum turnout.
