    Default Early May halibut

Im hunting brown bear in April/May next year 2010 and am thinking of a fishing trip after my hunt is over. I have hunted Alaska in the past.. however never wet a line. I am looking at early May [ie the 10th of may]. Is that too early to go on a halibut fishing trip??? Where should I look to go? Homer? I will rent a car out of Anchorage and drive. Also if anyone has some recomendations on charters for that time of the year it would be appreciated.

Definitely go to Homer. I've been down there around the 3rd weekend in May and have caught small 'buts and a King....I think some people fish there year round, so you should have a pretty good chance at catching something...

    Fish On!
You know your not catching any fish when you start talking about the weather...

If you want halibut, go to Homer. Don't waste time anywhere else.

I fished with Hans on May 3 this year and came home with a 50# and 20# halibut, with a 25# boat average. So it can be done in early may. This is out of Anchor point.
It ain't about the # of pounds of meat we bring back, nor about how much we spent to go do it. Its about seeing what no one else sees.
