    Default vacuum sealer problem

I have a fairly inexpensive Foodsaver that I picked up untested, and it appears to work ok with the exception of sealing- it seems to be missing a part. The lid has a metal bar that comes down and should pinch the plastic bag at the heating element- yet mine doesn't come down all the way, leaving a gap and keeping bags from sealing properly. I'm thinking either this is the wrong bar for this machine, or its missing an additional piece that attaches to the bar and makes up that additional space. Any Foodsaver owners out there that can tell me what I might try? I think something about 1/4" thick should do it, but not sure of the best material (does it need to be metal?)

problem solved, used some 3/8"vinyl tube and some duct tape- seems to do the trick.
