    Default Valdez Silvers

I have a trip planned for the first week of July to Valdez. This is my first time going there and was wondering if the Silvers are running then or what I can expect as far as bank fishing for salmon. Thanks

    Default Pinks

I thought pinks showed on even numbered years only? Could somebody clarify this? I plan on making a trip in late July!

Odd years are the big years for Pinks in PWS and in Valdez.

For clarification, (as far as sports fishing is concerned) all years in Valdez, and in certain other parts of the sound, produce a lot of pinks given that there are hatcheries. However, the wild pinks in PWS have really only been strong in odd years though.

Dont live by the 2 year cycle for a minute, I can guarentee you pinks come in regardless of the year, and typically in numbers too. On even years it is just that more show up, and that is primarily for the Kenai drainages anywho.

    Default Pinks

So they return every year, just more in even numbered years?

    Default Yep

Yep they return here every year because the hatchery releases them every year. Silvers won't show up until the end of July. Pinks are usually starting to show around the 4th of July.

So can I expect to catch pinks and silvers in the third or fourth weekend of July? That would be great!
