There's shrimp inside the bay and halibut just outside the narrows if you don't want to travel far. Do a search. There's been recent discussion here on this topic.

    Good luck!

    Default Valdez Halibut?

This guy walked into work here today, he a driver on the Army base. He has a copy of todays newspaper in hand, News Miner, and it has his mug in there with a 275lb butt which is now leading the derby.

I guess you can catch Halibut there now, he went out pretty far on a charter...

    Sweet

    Default Valdez

They are catching shrimp all over in the bay. Look for a flat spot about 300 ft deep and use about 600 ft of sinking line. Mike catch the third place halibut out near Entrance Island. The first place fish was caught on my boat the Otter Dodger out in the Gulf.

    Default Same Idea

I was wondering the same thing. How do you catch shrimp? I know you use a pot. What bait? Could someone explain how this is done? Jason

I use catfood mixed with herring/sardines and I put as much fish oil in the mix that the catfood will soak up. I put the bait in a mason jar with a cheap cheesecloth game bag as the lid.

I will also say have way more line than the depth you drop your pots at. I had two pots float off last week. Luckily we found both pots in the middle of the shipping channel before they did damage to a boat motor.

We dropped test pots before, in, and after the narrows (Vague for a reason). The test pot that did the best is where we ended up putting our whole string. We ended up with about 30 pounds of tails without heads after four days of shrimping.

Don't forget that a free shrimp permit is required this year to shrimp.

We only caught one chicken, so my advice on halibut would not do anyone any good.
