    Default My Wife's Bear

My wife killed her first bear over the weekend. She ended up shooting him at around 80 yards from a Manfrotto tripod fitted with the GunClaw. I had her shooting my handloaded 140 gr Accubonds out of a .270 Win. She made a great shot to put him down.

We got him out of Valdez over a registered bait station. Those bears have it bad for the sweet stuff and Dinty Moore beef stew. We had bears rolling on that bait both times I was down there. When we killed one bear another was there to take his place within a few hours.

Overall, it was a great trip and I'm darn proud of my wife.

    Default great photo

That is a very good job on displaying that bear for the photo. So many guys show their trophies with blood and dirt all over it. That just makes are whole industry look like a bunch of hacks. Great job, you represented hunting in a good light. I wish the rest of these guys would step up to 2009.

    Great job

That looks like a MONSTER of a blackie. Congratulations to your wife and you too. Were you using a "bear ball"? I would also like to see some measurements. Thanks for sharing, Mark

I didn't have a tape to measure the length of the bear. I just know he was huge. I took him to Kevin Hickman with AK Precision Taxidermy for sealing and measurements yesterday and I should know soon how it all turned out. I've killed quite a few big black bears in the upper 6 foot range and one squaring over 7 feet and this one is right in there.

Size doesn't really matter to me on this one. The coolest part of the bear is the white flash on his chest. It's a perfect "V" from one shoulder to the other across his chest. My wife has plans for a 1/2 life size to display his markings.

I used bacon and anise scent balls from Baitem907. They worked really well for us.
