    Default My first bear!

Well on wed. night, about 1230am, I shot my first black bear a boar, with my

bow. What a thrill! It started off a slow night, we had a small 3 foot bear that

provided so many great shot opportunites, would of made a great throwdown

rug for my bedroom But I waited and hear a few bears coming, at first I

thought it was a sow and a cub. But I seen the big bear chase off the smaller

bear that was following it. I knew than that it wasn't a cub, he was chasing it

away from the bait. The big bear walked in very cautiously, I made sure to

not make a noise at all. Just when I thought he was about to leave, he

provided a great shot oppotunity for a few seconds, I took the shot, got him

thru both lungs, he ran 30 yards, made a death moan that I will never forget

and expired. Awesome! Waited until 3 am, as my dad wanted to take a bear

too, but nothing else came. Got back to truck, and rested for a few hours and

recovered the bear. I brought him over to Archers Den show him off a little bit

and then went my buddy's shop, Action Anatomy Taxidermy, Bob Mardis, he

helped me out alot. We skinned him out at his house and am now getting him

made into a rug. Don't got the measurments but I should have the official

measurements soon from Bob. This bear was took in unit 16A. Thanks for

taking the time to read lol.

Very nice bear indeed. I shot a small blacky because I needed meat bad and everyone told me his hide would make a nice pillow case.

Finally got an idea on the size of the bear, measured it last night it was about 6' 6" and squared out at over 7', these aren't "official" just a quick measurement as its getting tanned currently. My dad got a nice small sow the other night, didn't run but 10-15 yards and fell over and gave out the most scariest yet awesome death moan I've ever heard. He shot it with his Bushmaster XM-15 in 6.8mm SPC w/ 110 grain bullets, layed the smack down on the bear! I fleshed and turned her last night and we got her in the tanner(buddy is a taxidermist) by 130am, getting a shoulder mount done on her.

Blaster, congrats on the bear. Must've been wide paw to paw! Any preliminary size on the skull? BTW, I like the Cutco!

Thanks! No size on the skull yet, bugs are busy cleaning it up, should have it back in a few weeks. I think he measured ROUGHLY 7 and 1/2 feet wide, yes he was WIDE. Cutco knifes are awesome, the orange really sticks out, can never lose a knife.
