I was wondering through our local PX and stumbled across the new Panasonic Cameras here recently. What caught me of guard was the shocking number in large print on them "70X". Surely this was adding digital and optical zoom I thought but closer inspection says NO. Apparently they are producing a true 70X optical zoom lens into a handy little SD (up to 32gig) cam package. Couple downfalls. Not weather proof, and the honest usability of 70x is not going to happen in 90% of outdoor situations I am sure. That said though I have frequently found light weight handy cams coming up short in the optics reach dept, and this one seems to be the answer! It may not solve the heat wave issue to look across a valley at some distant sheep but it will certainly let you get an insanely close footage of animals w/ in a couple hundred yards! They do have a quick you tube upload setting feature which sounds handy though I havn't actually laid hands on one yet to check it out.
