Default You think this is the same bear?

Finally got some hits on the bait. You think this is the same bear and the flash just didn't distinguish the color of the first one? Also do ya'll think its a cinnamon bear or a grizzly. I didn't even think of it being a cinnamon until my buddy mentioned it. Thanks for you help?

After looking at the first 2 photos i'd say it's the same bear and looks to be a cinnamon black bear but better pictures would help clarify.

Its tough to know 100%, but the first two pictures show a pretty dished face and very blocky head, also appears to have a hump. I wouldn't shoot it if that was the only look I had.

I'm seeing a hump. Also don't like the size of that rear foot pad with respect to the rear ankle either. Very stocky which says, "I get alot heavier in the fall". I'm reading brown/griz based upon these pictures.

    Great pictures. Thanks for sharing!

I'm going to have to go with Marc. The first picture looks loke a black but 2 and 4 really make me think its a grizzly for the same reasons Marc stated. I think you have a grizzly/brown bear visiting.

I think thats a black bear, that's not a very large hump if there is one, I guess we'll all know when you go back and whack him once you get a better look. Good luck MAN!

That second picture is what makes me think it's a black bear, the first one looks like it's at a bit of an angle, hence the dished face look. Hopefully ynggrasshopper will get a better look at this bear and report back.

Man, guess I'm in the minority here, but I just looked at 'em again and the second picture, to me, is a dead ringer griz...hump with the dished face, and like Marc said, stocky with room to grow for sure....

    Default Haven't seen him.

My buddy ran up there earler last week and said he saw the bear. And it was a cinnamon. I haven't seen him since on the camera. My Bnlaw scored sunday night and we believe it was the first bear. Roughly squared 6'3" will post pics later. Make a long story short, his wife thought she was going into labor and called as we were fixing to haul the bear out. We were almost 3 hours away. My wife drove her in and we made it to the hosiptal 20mins after they got there, but it turned out to be a false alarm.
Bnlaw was hoping to get a bear and have a kid in the same day.

dont think so if his buddy confirmed black bear...

    Default Confirmation?

And exactly how did he "confirm" that the bear he shot was the same bear in the photo? Did he see a rub on the bear in the photo or something?

I think it is a grizzly myself. The trailcam pictures are either just right or underexposed making him look blacker than he is. The head shape, short hump and the squareness of his body all say grizz to me.

    Cheers,

    Matt

"My buddy ran up there earler last week and said he saw the bear. And it was a cinnamon," quote....

So if his buddy ran up there and saw it and said it was a cinnamon, im going to believe it was a cinnamon. Up close at good angles and not on a camera , i would think would be much better judgement.

It still doesn't answer the question of how he "confirmed" that the bear he saw, not shot was the same bear in the trail cam. In other words, in order to confirm, I would think that he had some type of identifying mark in which to confirm. (i.e. an old wound, a rubbed hide, possibly a claw mark on its face, etc.) Did he take a DNA sample or what? I'm confused by the word confirm.

Don't think it much matters now, still haven't physically seen him personally. Not to much worried about it unless he miraculaous apears one day, then will make the call.
Other than that the Stand is going well. Had a bear come in as I was swapping SD cards on the camera, around 0120am, stood up from my pack back with my flash light to see if it the camera was on, and he bolted in the opposite direction. Might have only been 20yds. Had no Idea he was even there, **** rain. What a rush.
