Default .45-70 Cowboy Rounds - Can't Find 'em!

A coworker of mine is trying to find .45-70 rounds for his Sharps, and he is having no luck. It's not the standard .45-70 round, it's the special "cowboy" round that shoots black powder or a lower-powered smokeless. He has looked and can't find the ammo anywhere. Does anybody know where you can get it? If not, someone else from the office is traveling outside in July and will pick him up some, but the guy doesn't want to wait until mid-July to shoot his gun.

    Thanks!

Talk to Dan at the "Bullshop" in Delta Junction.

Dan makes cast loads for a variety of rifles and he has a real thing for the 45-70 and the Sharps. He should be able to help you out, particularly for something out of the ordinary.

Cabella's has them listed in their "Shooting Catalog". I would guess online as well - may be a bit pricy but they do have bulk listed as well...

The standard Remington 405 gr load should be fine. It's loaded to be safe for the old trapdoors.

Check Midways USA website and Cabelas.

I don't know if these would work for you, but I got them at MVS in Anchorage a while ago, and was told they were mild. There's a phone number on the box (see pic) for info.

    Good luck,
