    Default Ammunition

I have a Taurus Tracker Stainless Steel .44 mag. I backpack a lot. For bear defense, I was thinking 300 grain J.F.N. Is this safe for this weapon? Is this a good choice for this purpose? I love this gun!

If you're meaning factory ammunition, then yes. The gun will handle any SAAMI spec ammo, but it is a light gun, so recoil might be a factor. If you're a reloader, I'd use a 300 gr. wfn cast bullet.

I've never done this thread-thing (first-time, pretty cool) before but--
What do the initials/abreviations mean? (SAMMI; wfn; jfn). I'd really appreciate it. This is the first gun I've bought in years. (only had an AR and a 1911 untill now.) I've always brought my .45 along knowing in all reality it wouldn't probably do anything except piss a bear off...

A lot of good information is to be found here...'that said, always check sources.
