Default Guide service on the Kenai

Looking for any advice for guide service on the Kenai. Looking to do some fly fishing for rainbows. I know most trips will cost around the same price. Just looking for some personal advice. Thanks

Troutfitters is probably the best outfit out there. Closely followed my Mystic river and Alaska Clearwater Adventures. I would go out with any of them. All 3 top knotch outfits

Andy Szczesny of Alaska Fish and Float and you can reach him at (907) 262-9439. Andy is one of the good guys on the river and has been fishing the Kenai since before the Upper became a permit only area on the KNW Refuge waters and he happens to hold one of these permits. He is the only guide on the Upper Kenai River that has ever held a seat on the Board of Fish and his sense of humor will make the trip worthwhile even if you do not fish! However, if you like to pull plugs which more and more Upper kenai River guides seem to be doing these days do not call Andy as he will not fish this way.

Great Info and thanks for sharing. I am not a guide but pretty much fish the upper year round. I am not a plug puller and knowing that andy is not is really appreciated. Ill make sure to suggest him in the future

+1 and if Scott offers to play poker after fishing, don't. He always takes my money.

It ain't about the # of pounds of meat we bring back, nor about how much we spent to go do it. Its about seeing what no one else sees.

    Default hmmm

i originally went out with dan meyers my first time on the upper. i only caught 2 fish, and my buddy didnt catch a thing.. which is very unusual. The other people who he seemed to be more concetrated on did very well. He is with alaska clear waters. Trout fitters is a decent outfit with a couple different guides, theyve never really impressed me though.if i had to chose who i would pay to take me fishing on a river i already fish every weekend. Some1 that i could learn from, would definently be Mystic Waters... everytime i float by them i see them with a fish on... sometimes even tripple hook ups. They are in my opinion the best outfit. But, i do buy some of my flies from troutfitters. so make what you will with that info.

Mad Matt Duncan. He puts people on monsters on the middle Kenai and has the pictures to prove it.

I'll second that for Dan Hardy. I went on a guided trip with him last summer and had a great time, learned a lot, and caught some nice fish. He's very patient and loves to teach.

Also check with Andy Shelton. He'll definetely put you on some nice bows. I caught my biggest bow last summer on a guided trip with Andy. Here's his website: http://www.bendingbranchesak.com/Home_Page.html

Matt Duncan has been mentioned too. I'll give him a thumbs up also.

All of these guys are very good guides with good all around peronalities and very pleasant to be around. They love what they do which makes a big difference in my book. They all will make your day on the river a wonderful experience. Hope it works out for ya and have a nice trip!
