    Default Nice

What no Bears, Wolves or Lynx? I am going to be heading there next weekend and when I saw your post I was hoping to see some killer bear images. Last year I spent two weekends up there before the park opened and didnt get any of the above either. I know a couple of other pro photographers that get them along the savage river all the time. Can be frustrating at times. I really like that hen ptarmigan shot. I have net been able to time it just right to get one half mottled like that yet.

Plenty of ptarmigan and hares. I have never seen so many caribou and everywhere. As many as 50-caribou in a herd. We also heard wolves howling and barking at about 25-miles in but would just miss them on the road, so we were told. On our drive out we discovered a lot of wolf dookie on the road between the 10 to 14 mile marker before you get to Savage river. The dookie was not there when we drove in at 5:30am that morning.

And yes, no bears or lynx and we looked hard for them. We did not find anyone who had seen any bears.

Looking forward to getting back in there to photograph the Ptarmigan chicks the end of June.

Good luck and let us know how you do.

Tull, great shots. I really like the one black and white of the cow caribou. Very cool!

    All great shots, Tull.

Love the colors of the water flowing around the brush, though.

That was about as close as we could get to them. A good weekend.

I just wish I had focused more attention on the willow stained waters.
