    Default SHip Creek

I am a disabled Iraqi Freedom Vet from fairbanks. I am going to be staying at the Ship Creek Inn from Thurs night through sunday morning. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help me fish the Creek? I haven't done much king fishing in the last few years and have never fished the creek. I know it is early but I need to kill some time so I will be trying my luck. I just want to wet a line. Any help would be greatly appriciated and hopefully I will run into you out there. Thanks Seth.

    Default This weekend???

Are you talking about this weekend? The fish haven't arrived in Ship Creek yet. I do assume you are talking about Anchorage's Ship Creek. We don't usually see any Kings until late May and early June. You may get lucky and be one of the first to get one if you start that early, but I wouldn't get my hopes up. Sorry for the poor report, but thats the truth. I fish Ship every year during the King run, its a great place if you like combat fishing. The city does have a handicap access platform, and I have seen fish caught from it, but not a lot. I like to fish between the Bridge Resturaunt and the wooden foot bridge. I usually get at least 3 a year during the run. In Aug/Sep the silvers are in, but catching them is better on the downstream side of the wooden foot bridge.

    Good Luck

I agree with OKelkhunter, but if you still want to go to wet a line and get some fresh air, I can meet you early Friday morning. Who knows, with all the warmer weather we've had, maybe a couple of "scouts" will come in early! I just private messaged you.

Fish and Game says there have already been a few seen. If I wasn't working this weekend, I'd take you. Warmer weather plus big tides this weekend could bring some fish in. They've been caught in late April and early May before, so you never know.

Good luck to you, hope you are able to get out and wet a line.

I arrived in Anchorage late thursday night and am planning on fishing early .Thank you all for the info and offers. Regardless of the odds I think I will chance it early tomorrow morning. Since we don't have a casino I might as well throw the dice with some fish and get some fresh air to boot.
Thanks again for the warm response and I am grateful for your support. I hope someday to get to shake your hands. Until then,

i saw one person fishing yesterday afternoon, didn't talk the him so no report. I watch the water for a couple of minutes at the foot bridge and didn't see anything milling around. But there is some color to the water right now so it was a little difficult to see bottom. Good luck and let us know if you hook any!

Well, as I am sure you all suspected. I fished from 0600 - 0900 with no fish to show. However, I caught a great sunrise to a beautiful day and found 26 golf balls(the perfect amount for me to finish 18 holes) on the sand bar behind the comfort inn. So all in all a good morning. I will be fishing it off and on until I leave Sunday morning. I will certainly let you know if I catch or see any fish.

Buddy of mine was down at Ship today. He watched 5 kings "porpus" at the tide line. Said there was a seal working around the mouth of the creek.

Worked the incoming tide from the ol' culverts to the cable this morning with no luck. I was flippin a blue/chartreuse aerodrifter. Saw 4 other guys out there havin the same luck I was having. Looks like they were tossing vibraxes where the slack meets the current. Absolutely no signs of life..... just be patient!

    Smile I need a King!

Please, someone post a confirmed catch! I have a bet going with a buddy that the first confirmed King of the season will be caught on 5/13 on Ship. He's betting it'll be the Lil Sue on the 16th.
The wager is a dozen hand tied flies. I can't loose this guys, I don't have the time to tie him all those flies!

I can see the bridges from my office. The tide looks like it's almost full right now but no one is out there. There were about 5 cars on Monday, and probably as many people fishing that first elbow above the mouth.

So people have been there. Interested in hearing what they have to say.

Took my 3 year old out with me this morning for the incoming tide, was about 6 people total on the creek, saw nothing caught, no bites for me. I wasn't expecting much, figured I'd hit the creek up while its slow so my son could hang out with me and reel in a few times without the crowds.

Yesterday when I was at Campbell Point lake, Fish and Game stopped by to check our license and mentioned he had checked the few guys fishing Ship the day before, one guy had supposedly hooked up but did not land the fish.

I'm hearing a lot of "I know a guy who saw kings" but I can't find "the guy" who saw them when I try to track the story to its source.

Hopefully I can get lucky early and get a king before the crowds get there. I don't mind waiting in line but I really have no clue what I'm doing down there and I don't want to get anyone fired up.
