I'll be on Portage creek in Discoverer Bay for 4 days the 2nd week of aug. If I can get there in a 14' Lund we'll stop by and see ya. This is my first trip to Afognak and I can't wait. Are you familiar with Portage? always enjoyed reading your posts and will be looking for a nice report when you are done. good luck, Jeff

Afognak Island fire requires smoke jumpers....

A grass fire started Monday morning on Afognak Island after some trash escaped from the burn barrel of Alaska Department of Fish and Game researchers. No injuries or structural damage was reported.

The group was conducting smolt research along the Afognak River system.

    Default I smell burnt rat

I think I saw an episode in Mayberry where Barney accidently started a small fire and then acted like he discovered it so Andy and Floyd and Goober and Thelma Lou were saved and thought he was a hero. I can still see him pulling up his pants and turning his nose up when they thanked him. Could this be a copycat crime?
