Thread: Unit 13B Grizzlies - Subtract 1

    Default Unit 13B Grizzlies - Subtract 1

I put on some miles (boots) on Saturday and got a heck of a sunburn! As soon as I got back to the truck I spotted 2 grizz, go figure. They would have to wait til tomorrow. So the next morning I put the injun on one and sat on him for the better part of 2 hrs at 150 and then 70 yards trying to decide if I wanted to take him. As much as I wanted to make him grow, studying him from this angle and that, he still remained a little ol 5.5 footer! Oh well, I figured the 13B moose would be happy, he has a great coat, cheaper to tan, easy to pack out, and he offered a perfect shot!

So I watched him for the better part of 2 hours digging for roots. That was really great. At one point he started walking toward me and stopped at 33 yards. There was a few small willow between he and I at this point and if he kept coming I wouldn't have a clear shot until he's was in my lap! I chose a frontal shot while his head was down feeding. He was 100% facing towards me so I figured I would break his spine and the bullet would continue into his body cavity, painless. He dropped in his tracks and made one complete roll due to the slope, instant lights out, just the way I like it.

Good luck to the rest of you folks.

Oh yeah, it was a young boar. Ended up being a 69 yard shot and a 2-3 mile pack.

5 footers become 8 footers someday..................and kill moose and bou all the while!
Those light bears with dark legs look real nice on the wall or over the couch.
    You did good.

    Thumbs up

Perfect. If the two were closeby, chances are good they were siblings, and first year on their own. If you have a friend that wanted to shoot one, I would think the other one is probably still very closeby. That would be good, if someone could take out the other one.
    Congrats

Congrats! I like the coloration on the hide.

I saw two grizzlies on the 30th on the north end of the Haul Road. I've never seen them out this early up here. One was a dark boar with some silver on his back and sides. Not too big, maybe 6 foot, but neat coloration on him too.

    Default Beautiful hide

That thing is beautiful. I'd shoot a bear with hair like that any day of the week. Nice work man.

ADF&G sealed it today, skull is 18 9/16. Just a little guy.

Thanks for the nice comments. I will have it tanned only and hang or drape it over something or another.

Beautiful bear! With all that color you should really consider a rug. It is way too nice to just drape over a chair or couch in my opinion.

    Jim:
My sole big game rifle is a Tikka T3 Lite in 300 WSM. I have been shooting all my big game with 180 gr Sierra Gameking handloads at about 2950 fps for a few years now - so far so good.

    Spoiled One:
I already have 2 grizz rugs, and while his coat is primo and nice looking, he just isn't very big. Of course there's also the $$ factor for the rug!
