Question Help! Sport jon motor problems!

I have a 2004 Phantom sport jon with 150hrs on it. I have ran it about a 6 times since I got it last fall. One of the last times that I took it for a ride I lost about 500rpms at full throttle. It would pick right up to 5500 off the get go than drop off soon after. I figured it might be a pinched fuel line or bad fuel filter. I checked both when I got home and decided to put on a new filter. I took it out again last night and it was the same problem but worse. Lost about 700 rpms and also a constant beep until I came to a complete stop or an idle.

There is one more fuel filter on the engine itself that im thinking about changing. Other than that I talked to a tech and he said its probibly either a scored piston or a temp sensor gone bad.

    Any Other Opinions

I've heard others here talk of broken reed petals. Do a quick search, there is lots of info on different problems. When is the last time it got new plugs?

Call the service dept. at compeaus. Sounds like plugs, or reeds. Dont think it is a fuel issue. Do you have the 5 year warranty? Might still be covered under the Mercury warranty.

I talked to the Tech at compaues today and he thinks it is the temp sensor or scored piston. But it could be anything on these type of motors. I have had about 15 different ideas thrown at me on what it might be. Getting that thing hooked up to the diagnostic kit is the best way of telling. It's just to bad Fairbanks is 100 miles away from here.

Im going to try unpluging the temp sensor and see if that fixes the problem.

If not then off to compaues it goes.

Yeah, I tried unpluging the sensor last night and nothing helped. I have to go to anchorage tonight so im having a freind bring it up to Compaues tomorrow so they can run the diagnostic kit on it. When I find out what the problem was I will let you guys now.

    Thanks for all the help,
    Russell

Yeah guys I just wanted to let you know what the problem was. I guess it was a fusable link between the alternater and the battery. The fuse wasn't blown but there was no continuity in the wire. The tech said he put on a new wire and the battery jumped up from 11 to 12 volts.

He took it for a ride and there was no alarms going off and the motor wasne't loosing any rpm's. He said it ran perfect for the whole half hour trip at full throttle.

When the battery starts loosing volts any of the sensors can start going off for no reason. I gues the oil injection alarm was going off which put the motor into gardian mode.

    Thanks for the help guys.
