Default ATV does not want to shift?

Have this Kawasaki Prarie 360 When I start it, it does not want to idle, so I turn the idle screw until it does, then when it warms up it is idling to fast and have to unscrew it.
Then with the idle in normal range the shifter does not want to engage, it has to be barely runing to change gears without stripping the cogs.Any suggestions as to what could be going on and how to fix it without taking it to a dealer?

The answer for those viewing this is, the carburator!
Took a good cleaning with a spray cleaner. Runs like a new one.
