Thread: Dome Light in Soft Top

Question Dome Light in Soft Top

I'm looking to clip/attatch a dome light to the center spar on the bimini top and snake the wires back to the console. Does anyone know if there is something already packaged for this, or should I figure to throw it together myself. Also, has LED light prices come down to earth yet?

How about using one of the battery operated florescent lanterns? They are about $15 at costco.

    Default I thought about that

But I don't want something hanging down to walk into. I was hoping for more of an up and out of the way fixture.

I'm looking for the same thing, basic back deck lighting. I have looked at West Marine many times only to find the dome cabin lights or running lights. I don't want another wire/circuit added, I did look at Lowe's and found some cheap little LED battery lights, they are not very bright. I think I am going to go with either a pile of LED types or the Coleman battery lantern. Undecided at this point.

    Default headlamp

Get an LED headlamp with integral battery from Home Depot.
Cheaper than REI ...... "Really Expensive Items".
They come with flip lenses to switch between beam and dispersed light.
Cut headband shorter and customize with velcro to fit bimini frame.

How about one or two of these.

I just bought a couple which I'm planning to stick up in my v-berth using velcro. Seem to be reasonably well made, and put out quite a bit of light. Not sure how well they'll hold up in the marine environment. But for the price, I'm willing to pay the money and find out.

Costco had these a while back. Put one in the outhouse and it lasted all winter on the same set of batterys even worked at -35f.
When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.

I don't normally read in the outhouse in the winter but Yes! I also have one that illuminates the keyboard to the wife's computer to keep from turning on a big light in the room for the quick checks of mail.

From Cabelos for $13 ea. I figure 2 or 3 of them should do the trick.
