I posted this the other day in the AKODTV fishing thread but it deserves its own thread and attention. You can purchase a seat on these charters to fish alongside our armed service members or you can donate that seat back to a veteran. Contact the organizers for info. This is a fun event for a good cause and wanted to make sure everyone here knew about it.
We’re working with the folks that created the Combat Fishing Tournament to film this event for an episode of Alaska Outdoors TV. This is the 3rd annual event and we looked seriously at it last year for a way to work it into our TV series for this season. I feel it’s a very worthy cause and deserves our support as Alaskan outdoor enthusiasts. 300 members of our armed services will board one of the 30 charter boats currently donated by the Seward charter fleet for a full day of combat fishing with the largest weighed fish winning the day. This is very generous of the Seward fleet especially for this economy.
The event is for May 21st starting with a full police escort for the troops from Anchorage to Seward leaving around 2am that morning.
Bob Candopoulos and Keith Manternach are the event creators/organizers and can be contacted through their website. I’m looking forward to producing this episode which will be seen statewide Alaska and again nationally when we launch our national programming.
