Thread: 375 H&H 270 TSX Velocities

    Default 375 H&H 270 TSX Velocities

Barnes list 3 loads that put out the 270 grain pill at over 2800 FPS from a 24" barrel. Just curious if anyone is getting these types of velocitys. I am switching from the 260 accubond to either a 270 TSX or a 270 A Frame and my barnes testing is coming up first.

I went through a series of tests working this Barnes 270TSX in a friends Remington 700XCR chambered in .375 H&H. I doubted the information in the Barnes manual so I started carefully.

    RL-15
    CCI 250
    Barnes TSX 270gr
    COL 3.553

    71.0gr 2623fps
    71.5gr 2641fps +18fps increase
    72.0gr 2660fps +19fps increase
    72.5gr 2677fps +17fps increase
    73.0gr 2703fps +26fps increase
    73.5gr 2726fps +23fps increase
    74.0gr 2751fps +25fps increase
    74.5gr 2761fps +10fps increase

IMPORTANT: Barnes manual states that 77.0gr is max load for this powder and bullet combination, I didn't get that far. Chrony and primer evidence suggested 74.5gr was time to stop in my testing. Barnes has also corrected their manual via their web site and pulls their Win 748 data.

Getting the bullet close to the lands with this deep throat rifle and the pointy bullet wasn't possible. I varied the seating depth on the 72.5gr and 73.5gr loads.

    I tried the following:

    3.575
    3.600
    3.625
3.650 max length for his magazine is 3.673

These two loads are both shooting 5 shot groups under a 1/2 inch at 100 yards.

    RL-15 @ 72.5gr /2676fps
    CCI 250
    Barnes 270 TSX
    COL 3.625
Ogive .159 off of lands in this rifle

    RL15 @ 73.5gr /2704fps
    CCI 250
    Barnes 270 TSX
    COL 3.600

    Ogive 1.84

It goes without saying that my chronograph, powder, brass, conditions and rifle are different than yours so your results will vary. Use this information only as reference and use good judgment with your testing.

76.5 grains of RL 15 Got me 2805 FPS and 1.1 at 100, while VIT N540 78 Grains got me 2810 but accuracy was 2".

Guess 76.5 of RL 15 with a 270 TSX at 2800 is my new load. This is really going to pac a whallop and give me a legit 350 yard capabilities.
