    Default Kids Hiking Boots???kids packs??

I have a 6yr old and a 10yr old and am curious what kind of hiking boots I should get them or if I should get them any at all? My youngest I can see maybe just get a trail shoe but my 10 yr old I'm thinking something alittle sturdier. Not sure what to do and don't want to spend alot of money on shoes they'll outgrow by the end of summer. Just asking for recommendations on what and where to look for stuff for my kids? I am also looking for packs? Any help is appreciated. Trying to get set up for this summer.
    Thanks

I put my 7 yr old in Merrill trail runners and a Camelbak Mini-Mule. Doesn't have any problems. Uses the trail runners like everyday shoes.

I'd hesitate having them carry anything terribly heavy. I usually let mine carry his water and rain jacket and a couple of snacks or knick knacks.

Older kids can use sturdier boots and heavier packs.

I am in the same boat, my boy turn 8 next month. I also like the min-M.U.L.E and the Kelty Lynx looks pretty good.

I have to dig up the pics but my oldest has been hauling the Kelty lynx for a while and he loves it! Osprey just released a new kids pack this year that is pretty much just a shrunk version of their larger packs. I am going to let my oldest try it out at REI pretty soon since his little brother is just about big enough for the lynx now

The new Osprey Imp is sweet! I had my boy try it on fit him perfect. It also comes with its own built in rain cover.

I have 4 girls ages 7-11 that hike with me on 2-3 day trips. They all started at about age 6. I searched high and low until I ran into the Kelty Lynx 2650ST. 2 girls have grown through it and moved up and it is still going strong. It holds about 20 lbs. of gear. I would buy the cheapest waterproof hiking boot you can find for the youngest. If your 10 year old has big enough feet you might consider looking at a women's boot. I would always go waterproof. Hi-Tec and Merrell have a decent selection. Hope this helps.
