Default May Black Bear, Ketchikan area, idea's??

Hello, Wisconsin bowhunter is bringing son up to Ketchikan area for a late may black bear hunt. We are going to base out of the Ketchikan area and boat out. Doing on own. Me bowhunting, son with gun. We are going to focus on area south of town. Any locals have info to share about good crab, Halibut, shrimping spots? Or if you have a favorite grass beach you would like to PM would be appreciated!! Thanks

    Default Prince of Whales

If I were you, I would rent a vehicle and take the ferry to Price of Whales Island and road hunt. I have had great success over the past few years. You can camp on Sandy Beach just outside Thorne Bay.

    Default out of Ketchikan

There is good hunting out of Ketchikan ...

More protected water south in George or Carrol Inlets ... Thorne Arm can be a little open but if you work the weather it is good once you get inside.

Going North Behm Canal can kick it up ... so you must just work the weather.

Good fishing, crabbing, and shrimping either direction.

How big of Boat will you have? It is best if you get a big enough HP motor that you can make good time.

    Default sounds good ....

Is that a rental ... do you have coastal / rocky coastal experience?

We have up to a 18 foot tide variance ... that can make things interesting.

Nope, but should have been on the receiving ends a couple of times.
