Thread: Fresh water King Salmon closed?

Default Fresh water King Salmon closed?

I just came across the section in the regs that states that King Salmon fishing in freshwater in most of SE Alaska is closed. I'm taking it that this will probably be changed correct? Any idea when an announcement might come out?

You might have to check the regs on the specific systems you want to fish. I know in south central king fishing is closed in all areas except specific systems.

Looks pretty cut and dry. Coudn't find anything that says otherwise in our section of the regs.

    (b)
All fresh waters of the Southeast Alaska area
are closed to the taking of king salmon, except in the
Yakutat area, Blind Slough (see page 16), and in the
Sitka Sound Special Use Area (see page 18).

    And:

The fi shing season for all species
    (except king salmon between Cape
Fairweather and the International Boundary at Dixon Entrance) is open
    year-round.
Only unbaited, artifi cial lures may be used from November 16
through September 14. The use of bait is only allowed from September
    15 through November 15.
This regulation applies to all fresh waters,
including the specifi c exception waters listed on pages 13–22, unless
otherwise noted in the specifi c exceptions.
King salmon—between Cape Suckling and Cape Fairweather:

Limits: 20 inches or longer—1 daily, 1 in possession
less than 20 inches—10 daily, 10 in possession
In addition to the daily bag and possession limit, there is an
    annual limit
of 3 fi sh 28 inches or longer, and a harvest record is required for
    nonresident anglers
(see page 7). Nonresident anglers should check
with the nearest ADF&G offi ce for current annual limit regulations.

King salmon—between Cape Fairweather and Dixon Entrance:
    Season: closed
    Limits: none allowed

Been that way for years, probably not going to change any time soon.

So what about Fish Creek? Do posted signs take precedence over regs or visa versa?

fish creek below the pond is officially considered saltwater I think, also they usually come out with an EO in the Juneau area opening Juneau streams to taking kings.
I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.

    Default Always this way

The regs always say that Freshwater king fishing is closed area wide. In the spring every year they open Juneau area freshwater to King fishing because of all the DIPAC fish that get lost. NO Worries Pat.
