Exclamation Important Alaska State Parks Survey

It's time for the SCORP (Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan) for the Alaska Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation. Don't let the State hear only from the anti-motor crowd this time around. Everyone needs to go and fill out this quick and easy user survey, especially the motor-users and hunting/trapping crowds. This is one of the key elements that the park service uses to figure out what user groups to cater to. The anti-motor, anti-hunt/fish/trap crowd are the ones who generally respond to these surveys. I ask that all residents from all walks of life provide input to the state to balance out the equation this time.

The general user survey is here...

    Here are my "further comments"

Most of us want a safe place to park our vehicle off of the highway and a marked trail head to use as we see fit. The creation of hard bottom primitive trails to allow atv, bike, horse, snowmachine access to the millions of acres of state land that are currently inaccessible would do wonders to spread out the traffic in a manner that would take the preasure off of the high use areas such as the REX trail. The majority of AK resident outdoors users have little interest in tourist oriented parks. We live here to be in Alaska and simply want access to the raw wilderness. I would support any effort to purchase private land and build simple trail heads especially accross much of the new native corp holdings that are blocking existing access trails. I would also like to see the reclaiming of the Hunter creek trail head on Knik River road! I do not support any expansion of parks that brings an increase in restrictions over the current state land "Generally Allowed Uses". Between the major state and federal parks there is already tens of thousands of acres devoted to non motorized uses. There are currently 0 motorized use areas that have any restrictions on other access means and meathods. Another words if further land is procured it must be done so in the name of all user groups!

You present some excellent points, Jon. I will fill one out for my son right now and incorporate some of your excellent points.
