    Default Easy Barbecue Sauce

    I found this on the Tabasco® web site a few years ago. What I like about it you don't have to cook it.

    3/4 Cup Ketchup
    1/2 Cup Cider Vinegar
    1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
    3 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
    3 tbsp Vegetable Oil
    2 tbsp Lemon Juice
    2 1/2 tbsp Chile Powder
    2 tsp Dijon Mustard
    1/2 tsp TABASCO® Pepper Sauce
    1/2 tsp Salt
    1/2 tsp Ground Black Pepper
    1 Small Onion Minced
    2 Cloves Garlic

    Mix all ingredients in a bowl and store in refrigerator over night.

    A couple of notes. I don't know what they mean by a small onion, but a whole onion in this is over kill.
    I use about 4 tbsp of finely minced onion, and suppose a tbsp of onion powder would work too. A whole tsp of Tabasco® is good too.
    I mix mine in a quart canning jar, shake it up and put in in the frig.

    We usually use sauce on the side, like with the two huge slabs of ribs I did yesterday with dry rub on them. MMM

    I'll See your Tabasco recipe and raise you one that is easier with as much flavor. In the mid-atlantic region Old Bay rules. And for a very good reason.

    Default Another one to try

    Here is a sauce my wife found and tweeked to our liking, Good balance when used with the rub.

    BBQ Sauce

    1tsp Vegetable Oil
    1/2 onion, diced
    1 clove garlic, minced
    3 TBS Worcestershire sauce
    3 TBS vinegar

    2 TBS molasses
    1 tsp prepared mustard
    1 cup ketchup

    1/2 cup cold water
    1 tsp cornstarch

    Heat the oil in a saucepan over medium heat and saute the onion until tender and golden brown. Stir in garlic. Mix in Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, molasses and mustard. Cook and stir 5 minutes. Then mix in ketchup, cold water and cornstarch. Reduce heat to low and continue cooking 10 minutes, until thickened.


    3 TBS brown sugar
    1 1/2 TBS paprika
    1 1/2 TBS salt
    3/4 TBS ground black pepper
    1 tsp garlic powder

    Mix ingredients together. Rub into ribs. For best results, wrap in tin foil and allow ribs to marinate overnight in refrigerator. Grill ribs as desired.

    Oh, don't get me goin' about rub now. I have my own recipe for pork rub. I call it Ken's Butt Rub®. mmm

    I'll have to try these other recipes fro sauce too. They both look good.

    Too many ingredients will ruin a sauce. Real quick.

    I feel there are 2 kinds of BBQ sauce, vinegar based or sweet based..

    And I prefer the sweet based.

    Almost any sweetener will work. Try honey, jelly, maple syurp, even refined sugar. My favorite is Molasses. I don't care for Molasses in any other dish but due to its flavor I love it in BBQ sauce!

    The body of the sauce is tomatoes. I like to cook down real garden tomatoes but ketchup will work and is a lot quicker.

    Something to add a little tartness in contrast to the sweet vase is the only other ingredient required. I use mustard. If you use bottled ketchup go ahead and use bottled mustard in a squeeze bottle.

    I squirt a large bottle of ketchup into a large bowl that has a pour spout. Add a half cup of molasses and a quarter cup of mustard. Stir, then taste.
    Add more sweet or tart according to your taste.

    You are done.

    I put the sauce back into the Ketchup bottle (minus what I use) and write "BBQ" on the label.
