High temps up 8 to 10 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday. Lows around 5 degrees.
Snow Depth At Landing Parking Lot:
We still have ground covering, but most of it is either crusty/icy snow, or straight ice. We didn't plow the lot, but conditions are still not very good when driving inside the gate. Please use extreme caution in lot and on road in the townsite.
1/20 The colder temps Monday-Wednesday have improved conditions greatly in several areas. Most overflow is now frozen on the Susitna, Deshka, and Yentna. Large open hole in front of Luce's. Due to the overflow and amount of water south of McDougall's, the trail is considered impassable a few miles past Yentna Station. Trails are very hard with some sheets of slick ice. Larry H. and Ron V. double groomed from the Landing down to the mouth of the Yentna on Wednesday night. There are some bumps out there, and the trails are in as good of shape as can be.
Some inconsiderate users ripped up the trails in places, so you have to be ready for some places that will now have a large rut in them. The groomers will do their best to repair the damage. There is not a lot of snow cover due to the rain last weekend, the trails are more solid ice. Off trail use could be hazardous because it is crusted on top, not very supportive underneath and you can bury your machine fast. Kroto Slough and Fish Creek trail are solid. You will need to go slower if you are pulling a load due to the bumpiness of the trail. Scratchers are highly suggested.
