Default Question about using Gun Broker...

I don't fully understand the process of using an FFL to accept a firearm for you. Do I contact an FFL FIRST and tell them I'm interested in using Gun Broker & get pre-approved? Do I actually need to be pulling the trigger on a purchase BEFORE I contact an FFL?

Just wondering if its worth the hassle to buy off gun broker? Seems like shipping is expensive, I was quoted anywhere from $40-$85 to ship an AK to Alaska. One local shop told me they won't do the FFL transfer if its a firearm that they normally carry. They do list quite a few Anchorage area FFL's, but I haven't contacted any-kinda confused about the process.

    Any help?

I would get with a local FFL first and find one I was comfortable with and know what their transfer fees are.

Then you can factor those fees into the price of said gun and know what you are getting.

I have found some VERY good deals on GB and have bought 3 guns off of there in the past year.

There are a bunch of guys around that will do a simple transfer for $10 to $20. Use the FFL finder on Gunbroker to get some names and give them a call.

    Good luck.

That's what I was wondering too. There were a lot of local FFL's listed. One of the gun shops told me it would be hard to get an FFL to transfer for me so I assumed a lot of the FFL's listed may be owners of gun shops.

That's what I'm finding too. The AK's and others have been picked clean at my local shops. Looks like shipping and FFL would be $100+/-, which puts the price at about what I could get locally, if available.

I use Gunbroker a lot and am very satisfied. Get with an FFL you can work with, as previously stated, and add in that price, as previously stated. My FFL used to charge $20 for the transfer but now it is $10; pays to develop good relations with folks for many reasons. I have gotten some very good deals from them. Good luck. J.
