Default Al Ox for blasting firearms

    Hey all,
I'm finally well set up for refinishing (personal not a business) and I was hoping somebody could help me find a local company that sells Aluminum Oxide for blasting. I've checked Air Liquide and Airgas, as well as AIH, Home Depot, Lowe's. I don't care what size they are selling, I was just hoping to find Aluminum Oxide in Anchorage so I don't have to order it and pay the shipping. It's going into a large Clarke Abrasive Blasting Cabinet and I was hoping to find 120 grit or something close.

Thanks for any ideas you might have.

I could tell you where I bought mine, but I won't post anything useful to this forum until they change their policy on not allowing posts critical of any businesses. Sorry.

    Default Aluminum Oxide

You can get 120 grit aluminum oxide from Grainger in Anchorage in 5 gallon buckets. It is around $70.00 a bucket and takes 2 weeks to get. You can check out their products on their website. I hope this helps. What type of coating are you going to be applying?

    Default Possible sources

Maybe ANC SAND and GRAVEL? Fairbanks Sand and Gravel in Fairbanks had different types of media.
In Fairbanks Bush Painting does sand blasting. A business like that might be of help.
Might try a couple of machine shops too. Lots of them have media blast cabinets.
Last guess is any business doing Powder Coating has to use media too.
Remember with the use of any media, ventilation and air quality is important. Silica is one of the worst. I am not a Chicken Little kind of guy, but take time to read the MSDS and take precautions to not breath the stuff.

    Default Yes, Luck

Howdy, I ended up calling Grainger / Anchorage. They ordered me 50 lbs of 120 al ox and it was here within a week. Just used it on first project. Awesome. The metal looks like it's just aching for some gunkote.
