    Default What's your pet 30-06 load ?

I am trying to work up a load for my 30-06 and am not having much luck. I know there are hundreds of recipies out there but I'm looking for your favorite. I have a Remington 700 that I hunt whitetails with and a Remington 760 carbine that I Black Bear hunt with. I have reloaded for about 5 years but haven't spent a lot of time with the 06. I'm also leaning away from Core-Locks, I saw two cases this year where a 180 grain RN completly came apart, these were factory loaded rounds. I think I'd like something around a 165 grain SP, maybe a 180. I also like Varget, I load it in my 22-250 and am very pleased with that. Thanks for any help.

    Default Rl 19

I have been using Reloader 19 with Winchester brass, CCI large rifle primers and 180 grain Barnes X bullets for quite a few years. Each gun is different so you could probably start with 55 grains and go from there. There are a bunch of good 30-06 powders. I just happened to buy a bunch of Reloader 19 years ago.

57gr H4350 with 180. Accurate and fast; it is as close to a do everything load as a person can find.

I second Oldrgr's load. 57 grains of H4350 with 180 grain Nosler Partitions does very well in my Springfield '03A3.

I also use 57grs of 4350 behind a 180 in my sporterized 03. with win brass, federal primers and Barnes x bullets. Out of mines 22" tube they only clock in at around 2500fps but they shoot great. I loaded 27 of them about 6 years ago and of those 8 went to sighting in 4 through whitetails, 1 through a 7x5 bull elk, 2 into and beyond coyotes, whith the rest smacking feral hogs. All one shot kills at ranges from 30yds to 400 plus.
This load matched to my old Springfield make up team BloodnGuts

I just worked up some loads for my 30'06. Rifle is Mod 70 classic stainless.

1st load 53 gr IMR 4350 with Hornady 180 gr SP, Win brass and Fed Large Match Primer. Do not have crono, but this load shot a 3 into 5/8" at 100 yards.
2nd load is 57.5 gr H4350 and a Speer Mag Tip 180 gr, with same brass and primer. Shot 2 bullets into one hole and the 3rd close by, 13/16" group at 100 yards.

From my Hornady and Speer manuals, H4350 and IMR 4350 are usually top performers with 180's, though there are also several other good choices. Have not hunted with either round yet, but both are very economical since the bullets mentioned are about the least expensive quality bullets I could find and afford to shoot often. Both should be good all around non-dangerous game hunting rounds.
