Default Hunting info wanted! Chisana river

Looking for info about gettting dropped off at the airstrip in Chisana and then floating the river. Moose, sheep and bear.

I haven't hunted moose in over 15 years and would like to this year and am looking for an area to go.

    Thanks

40 mile will not fly you in there if you are hunting. You may be able to get someone from McCarthy to take you in, or maybe someone from Glennallen. It is a bit of a hike from the airfield over to the main river channel and you will want to be sure you do not trespass on private property getting there. There is no public fresh water source in Chisana, but there is a small Park Service public use cabin and outhouse.

There are far better places than Unit 12 to hunt moose right now.

    Default Ditto,

what Chisana said. Moose #'s are not great, but you are in competition with the whole upper river and then the lower river gets hammered by locals.

    All true.

And the locals can ride atvs for their hunt and shoot any bull moose. you will be walking and looking for a 50" four-brow-tiner.

    Default atv's

Not many places up there for atv's as most of it is in the refuge or preserve. Sounds like tv is a resident, so antler restrictions are necessary. The moose population has been down for quite awhile and hoping that it starts building up with a few fires in certain places. The river down from Chisana is hunted hard for sheep by the guides there. I am sure there are some bears and wolves up there.
