    Default Kenai conditions 1/1/09

Anyone seen the river last couple days? Worth fishing or to slushed up?

-30 in sterling for the last week, my guess is its not fishable
I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.

I was in Cooper landing yesterday and the river is fishable south of the bridge. There is about 30 to 40 yards open on the Kenai lake side. I did see some people ice fishing about a quarter mile north of the bridge. Best of luck if you decide to go, let us know how it was!

it's almost always fishable at the bridge, but you get much below there at all and you'll be into a lot of slush. Some 20-30 degree weather would provide decent fishing around the bridge, but the temp still needs to rise about 50 degrees to get there.

fishing isn't about life or death... it's more important than that.

Does it take a while for the river to break up with a little warm weather or will it be froze up till spring?

The cure is coming in three and a half months. Hopfully.
